POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs coding compliance audits of patient care billing documentation in accordance with Facey Medical Foundation’s annual Compliance Work Plan, and prepare written and oral communication to the Auditing & Compliance Supervisor on the results of audits performed.

Audits are performed to ensure adherence with CPT and ICD coding guidelines, billing documentation, and federal, state, and commercial payor billing and payment policy for all services provided by Facey Medical Group physicians and professional staff.

Candidate EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:

• High School education required.
• Associates Degree in Business or related field preferred.
• Certification as CCS-P or CPC required.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience with third party medical insurance, diagnostic & procedural coding, and medical billing.
• Knowledge of third party billing and payment requirements for third party payors including managed care benefits.
• Experience and demonstrated track record in the following skill sets:
  • Coding and reviewing patient care documentation for billing purposes
  • Familiarity of interdepartmental interactions as it relates to Revenue Cycle
  • Understanding of Medical Group operations
  • Computer literacy – Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Familiarity or working knowledge with an electronic medical record environment
  • Practice management software – Patient Scheduling/Billing systems (GE/IDX)

Position Nature and Scope:
Under the direction of the Director of Internal Audit, prepare an annual risk-based audit plan based on IT risks.   Plan, develop, execute, and prepare reports for IT audits and special projects, as requested at the direction of the Director of Internal Audit. Additionally plan, perform, document fieldwork on IT components of financial, operational, and compliance audits performed by the Internal Audit Department. Make recommendations for improvement that are feasible based on current resources. Educate members of the Internal Audit Team on IT risks and controls.

This position must be objective and independent of the activity being reviewed.  It is authorized to have free and unrestricted access to organization functions, records, property, and personnel.

Candidate Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Possess strong interpersonal and presentation skills; effective oral and written communication with both internal and external contacts, which clearly and effectively convey project objectives, evaluations, conclusions, and recommendations; understanding of human relations; maintaining satisfactory relationships with project clients.
