Founded in 1912 by the Lutheran Church, Legacy Emanuel Medical Center occupies a vital role in the metropolitan area and in the region as a medical center with around-the-clock expertise for critical health conditions.

With leading care for trauma, burn and intensive care, as well as serving as the hub for critical care transport, Legacy Emanuel is central to high-acuity care. Legacy Emanuel also promotes prevention efforts and catalyzes support for neighborhood development and growth.

Legacy Emanuel Medical Center is recruiting for an experienced Coding specialist Lead to join our dynamic team of professionals. The Coding Specialist Lead coordinates the day-to-day operations of the staff while also performing the duties of a staff member. This person is responsible for ongoing coding education for Coding Specialists in ICD-9-CM, CPT coding, abstracting, DRG’s, APC’s, Medical Necessity and NCCI edits at all sites. Provides mentoring, oversight and training.

Staff duties include coding and abstracting medical records data completely and accurately after discharge to provide a solid database for use by Hospital Administration, Medical Staff, Quality Department, and other internal and external users.

Candidate Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess the following education and experience:

  • Completion of AHIMA approved program or other vocational training program equivalent required.
  • Three years inpatient and outpatient ICD-9 coding and CPT coding and abstracting preferred.
  • RHIA, RHIT, CCS or other equivalent certification.
  • Demonstrates effective communication and training abilities.
  • Ability to lead and oversee staff on a given shift.
